With the increasing applications of Virtual Reality technology in a variety of fields,it is possible to construct three-dimension virtual science museum via Internet.It will help to make full use of scientific resources by means of participation and experience,in order to provide the public with more vivid study environment of scientific knowledge.At present, the construction of the virtual reality system is mostly based on VRML/X3D.The limitations of current technologies are obvious in the process of implementing a low-cost, desktop-class,network-oriented and three-dimension virtual museum system.According to the characters of virtual science museum,the paper provides a method based on X-VRML and driven by database to create general virtual museum.It greatly reduces the difficulty of programming,shortens the development cycle,and reduces development costs.On the base of analyzing traditional virtual reality system structure and the new X-VRML characters,providing an X-VRML-based system structure,and expatiating scene organization structure,element and template customization,scene data store,and scene interpretation in detail.Based on X-VRML data access interface and object-oriented programming ideas,the paper proposes parameterized template's concept.Via reading the scene attribute values from database to being as parameter values of templates,then dynamically generating different scenes instances.Furthermore,to implement inheritance and reuse of template.In addition,by designing the visual template manager to complete flexible modification of template information.The mixed interpretation method based on three-tier B/S can reduce network traffic data,and accelerate the generation of scenes.Meanwhile,the paper proposes the separate storing principle which divides the virtual world into four levels:entity,schema,template and scene.At last,through experiments to initially validate the correctness and technical feasibility of the proposed approach.
