Research On The Design Of Web-Based Virtual Costume Museum

In recent years, the digitization becomes a very important trend in the development of museum and establishing a virtual museum by using virtual-reality technique is a main research of digital museum. With characters like visual, idiographic and vivid, virtual museum, which is a good supply for digital museum and one of development way of digital museum, will have expansive future.This thesis discussed the relation of online museum, virtual museum based on Web and museum website in the digital museum's category. These forms have some parts same but quite different in nature, so online museum is not equal to the website of a museum and virtual museum can't be thought simply as online museum.Virtual museum mainly means the display form of exhibiting museum's collection, history and scene by using virtual-reality technique. And nowadays web virtual museum is the popular way and will continue developing. VRML is a kind of web-used modeling language for virtual-reality and is used for constructing alternating three-dimensional circumstance on web. Progress of VRML and web3D technique makes the online virtual museum become possible. This thesis researches onthe project of virtual museum on the website of China Costume Museum, and especially studies the visual and layout of virtual museum design. By researching VRML and Virtools Dev technique, the thesis summarizes several pivotal conditions affecting museum's visual effect and introduces Real-time rendering and texture baking and it also discusses establishing ways of costume collection under the particularity of the museum. On the one hand, it uses technique of object panorama to achieve three-dimensional exhibition of real collection. On the other hand, it uses 3D model software and Web3D technique to construct scene and virtual collection and complete 3D ramble of the museum.Constructing a virtual museum is a systemic project and how to establish a connection of 3D collection, virtual exhibition scene and web database is a problem of virtual museum must be solved. Maturation of web3D technique makes it clear that age of 3Dweb is coming now and it supplies chances for development of virtual museum. It is reasonable to believe that in the near future, web3D will be accepted greatly like HTML by designer and develop a new form of 3D interactive multimedia art.
