Along with the rapid development of information technology, people are not content with 2D interface on the web. They want to make the internet multi-dimensional information spaces. That is to say, web no longer centers on page. It becomes an interactive, 3D, vivid world. VR (Virtual Reality) technology is the main technology to implement multi-dimensional information spaces. So, the 3D (three-dimensional) cooperative and interactive environment on internet and its applications are important research aspects in VR. This paper is to carry out research work in this field based on the item of chang-qing oil virtual safety training system.With the aid of VR technology, we have constructed a virtual training system about well-drilling of oil field based on VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) and Java. The major work and research conclusions of this paper are showed as follows:(1) 3D modeling3D modeling of virtual environment is the foundation of virtual reality system. For there are a great variety of equipments in the oil field, we use more than one method to model according to the types of objects, the goals we expect and current technologies. At last, we reorganize and optimize the codes in VrmlPad to realize a lifelike virtual environment with not reducing the transmission speed and image paining speed.(2) Virtual interactionAnimation and interaction technology is the core of VR application. In virtual oil field, we use a series of sensors to realize the interaction between human and virtual equipment as well as its surroundings. In order to make the virtual interaction more vivid, we introduce the programming language such as Java and JavaScript to the VRML Script to increase its interactive ability.(3) Cooperative operationInteraction between human and virtual environment is not enough, interaction among humans namely multi-users cooperative interaction is also needed. In virtual oil field, EAI is used to realize the data transmission between VRML scene and HTML page, while Java Socket mechanism is used to realize network data transmission and information consistence of each virtual scene. So data transmission among VRML scenes can be realized, that is to say, users can interact with each other in their virtual spaces by network.This subject is to change the traditional training methods of oil field, and offer the users intuitional and friendly graphics training environments constructed by VR. Workers can master the usage of some machine or some system in virtual environments supplied by computer. This training way can avoid the inherit disadvantages in traditional training methods. The research result is based on virtual training system about well-drilling of oil field, but it is of certain reference value for long-distance education, cooperative designation and the web games.
