Radar clutter simulation is always a key problem for radar technicians. Restriction on the detection ability of radar system is not the internal noise, but the environment clutter under the clutter dominant external circumstances. Clutter study on the mechanism of the formation, clutter reflection intensity and its relationship with radar parameters, probability distribution function(PDF) of clutter may provide the theoretical basis,specify technical direction, and avoid radar design work a certain degree of blindness. The purpose of this dissertation is to sum up the radar clutter models, to genetate various types of clutter for future research.First, this disseration analyses the characteristics of clutter signal. The main emphasis is placed on the clutter properties of amplitude and spectrum, by which clutter modeling follows. There are two main methods to generate clutter with specified PDF and power spectrum density(PSD): the zero-memory nonlinearity (ZMNL), spherically invariant random processes(SIRP). The former generates clutter from the gaussian random sequency with specified nonlinear transform. The latter generates correlated clutter by modulating a relevant gaussian random process with the random sequency with specific PDF, which allows for independent control of the marginal PDF and correlation function. With reference to clutter simulation based on ZMNL, the log-normal distribution, Weibull distribution and K distribution clutter with different PSD are generated.Secondly, modeling the clutter as a real random process would seem a sufficient characterization of the clutter in problems of incoherent detection. Even in this case, however, the phase characterization of the clutter is needed to derive the PDF of the detected envelop when the signal is present. Modelling coherent clutter is also needed in the design of optimum detection schemes and radar video signal simulation. The generalized method for coherent clutter simulation is provided and some simulation results for coherent log-normal clutter are given.In the last, the dissertation summarizes works of the subject, and gives a vista of research.
