With the deepening of ocean exploration and the rapid development of radar technology, the research of radar sea clutter has been concerned by scholars. Sea clutter statistical modeling and simulation can provide theoretical basis for radar system design, surface target detection, and marine environmental monitoring. So it has important theory research signification and utility value in military and civil fields. This paper analyzes the sea clutter statistical characteristics combining with the measured data, and details are as follows:The modeling of four common backscatter coefficient empirical models (GIT, HYB, TSC, NRL) is completed. Characteristics and applicability of each model are summarized by comparing simulation result with the measured data collated by Nathanson. The influence of wind speed, wind direction, grazing angle and polarization on the backscattering coefficient is analyzed on the basis of modeling.Four classical sea clutter amplitude distribution models, their parameter estimation methods and power spectrum estimation methods are elaborated. Based on the IPIX radar data, fitting the measured data with four models and power spectrum estimation are completed. The amplitude distribution and power spectrum characteristics are discussed innovatively, and several research conclusions are drawn.Two kinds of classic sea clutter simulation methods (ZMNL and SIRP) are discussed. With the method of ZMNL, Rayleigh, LogNormal, and Weibull distributed clutter are generated. Combine with backscatter coefficient empirical model and K distribution shape parameter empirical formula, the relationship between environmental factors, radar parameters and K distribution scale parameter are found. On the basis of above research, two-dimensional K distribution clutter is got with SIRP method.
