The simulation of radar clutter signal is an indispensable part in radar signal simulation. The purpose of this study is to sum up the existing clutter models and the simulation methods and to generate clutter signal by computer simulation in accordance with the typical models. The effectiveness of the simulation methods will be studied and all types of clutter will be produced for the inner field simulation experimental system.The complex mechanism of radar clutter can be described by the random process. It is characterized by its focus on the clutter extent distribution and the correlated property (or spectrum). Rayleigh distribution, LogNormal distribution, Weibull distribution and K distribution are four distribution models commonly used. Power spectrum models have Gaussian spectrum, Cauchy spectrum and Allpole spectrum. Simulation of the so-called clutter is to find a rapid accurate algorithm and to produce a certain random sequence which it is necessary to meet the clutter extent distribution and to meet the correlated property at the same time. There are two typical methods: ZMNL (zero memory nonlinearity) and SIRP (spherically invariant random process). Two methods have advantages and disadvantages, depending on the different clutter model and the conditions to choose to use.Basing on the relevant literatures, the paper gives the simulation methods and steps of four distribution models commonly used in three circumstances of the power spectrum. The formation of the correlated Gaussian sequences will be studied detailedly in the clutter simulation procedures. Time and frequency domain method of the correlated Gaussian sequences are given for selection in different clutter simulations. Combination with mathematical and statistical theory and modern spectrum estimation technology, several commonly used methods of the distribution parameter extraction and testing are given for parameter extraction and simulation data testing to proof the validity and reliability of the results. The simulation curves of the clutter probability density function and the power spectral density are compared with the theoretical curves. The result proofs the effectiveness of the clutter simulation models and the algorithms.The models of four extent distribution and three power spectrum density, a total of 12 kinds of radar clutter models will be packaged as Simulink simulation modules for the call.
