Car body welding line is the main equipment for automobile production, it has the characteristics of complicated process, accordance of production logistics and strictly matched production rhythm. The traditional planning and design method of welding production line can not effectively coordinate the relationship of design and manufacturing stages, to seek global optimum profit of enterprise. With the development of the computer-aided engineering and simulation technology, virtual design and virtual manufacturing technology has presented, providing an effective way to solve above problem.Car body welding line is the research object in this paper. Based on eMPower software platform, this paper has researched the virtual simulation of car body welding line and the planning and design method of car body welding line on the use of virtual manufacturing technology.Firstly, the characteristics of car body welding line are introduced. Based on eM-Planner module, a mixed model is put forward to represent the information of process planning and process database such as part library, process resource library and process operation library are built. On this basis, according to the product structure, the structure of welding production line is defined, achieving process layout of welding production line, and the link between different work cells and the operation sequence of the work cell is refined by using PERT chart tool that can achieve visual process design. The body assembly relationship tree model is constructed; it can be used effectively to express the overall body structure and assembly process requirements.Secondly, reference the actual production process of an enterprise's car body welding line, an welding production line 2D visual simulation model is constructed based on eM-Plant logistics simulation module and using object-oriented technique. Based on dynamical analysis of production process, the bottleneck of production line is diagnosed. An optimized scheme is proposed and the simulation model is rebuilt. The optimized scheme is verified by comparing the optimized model with the former model at the aspects of production capacity and equipment utility rate.Finally, the modeling simulation method for welding work cell of welding production line is studied. The process of simulation and analysis for manual welding are shown by taking the manual operation in a certain work cell of welding production line as an example.
