Steel Wire Mesh Belts(SWMB) has many characters such as strong corrosion resistance, high tensile strength, smooth mesh surface, good air permeability, high strength, deformation resistance, wear well, etc. And it is widely used in food and pharmaceutical industry, electronics industry, chemical industry, glass manufacturing industry and other automatic production lines. Consequently, it is an essential part of modern automatic pipelining. Most of existing SWMB enterprises at home and abroad still adopt the manual welding method to manufacture SWMB. There are many shortcomings of the method like strong intesity of labour, low welding efficiengy, instable welding quality, poor working environment, larg working area and so on.Therefor, it is imperative to optimize the welding procedure and accelerate the automation transformation of SWMB welding production line.In this paper, a robot automatic manufacturing process of SWMB is proposed based on the original welding process of SWMB. The welding process parameters of plasma arc welding(PAW) are optimized. The flexible welding fixture, software and and hardware system of the automatic welding production line are designed. Finally, a robot welding production line of SWMB with high efficiency, high precision and fexibility is conducted.Firstly, the background and significance of the paper were introduced. The development history and research status of plasma arc welding(PAW) equipment, optimization of PAW process parameters and automic welding were analyzed. The critical technology of welding robot workstation was summarized, and the paper framework and main content were proposed finally.Secondly, based on the full analysis of the original welidng process of SWMB, a scheme of automatic welding process for SWMB was put forward, the process of automic welding was optimized and a robot welding production line of SWMB was designed. Meanwhile, the fixture of drive and positioning with high precision were designed on the basis of full analysis of the requirements of the SWMB welding process and synchronous welding technology of dual robot.Thirdly, the software and hardware of control system for robot welding production line of SWMB was designed. And then, the entire production line was debugged. It operates properly and takes 10 seconds to weld one joint of SWMB. Comparing with the manual welding production process, it improves welding efficiency greatly. Meanwhile, it saves a lot of manpower and working space.Lastly, the welding parameters of PAW which have huge impact on the welding quality were studied on the basis of fully analsis of the requirements of PAW welding process. Then, the parameters of the automatic PAW process were optimazed using Taguchi Method with the Grey Relation Analysis and Analysis of Variance. Finally, the welding quality and its stability were proved through experiment.
