Lishi Study

During the Northern Song Dynasty, the Epigraphy had got a big development with the prevalence of doubting ancient times, the literati's hobbies on Epigraphy and the maturation of copying inscription. This time, Scholars were good at researching History but performed not very well on the research to Chinese character. Moreover, the Epigraphy works of Song Dynasty established the description style, the range of study and the research technique. Lishi and Lixu, written by HongKuo, was the representative work of Epigraphy in Song Dynasty. This article made a relatively comprehensive research on the edition, style, contents and academic value of Lishi and Lixu.Lishi and Lixu was published several times before Qing Dynasty, but Lixu was not complete any more when WangRixiu engraved Lishi and Lixu together at the period of QianLong. This edition was used by HongShi and ZhongHua Publishing House lately.Lishi and Lixu took two ways when writing. One was to record the whole inscription and another way was to extract the achievements of the predecessor. According to the difference to present the inscription, this article has divided the fist way into three kinds. They are recording words, recording images and recording shapes. By the way to extract the achievements of predecessor, Lishi and Lixu had gathered more information to the inscription of Han Dynasty. At the same time, this article had also made some commentary to the standard of classification in Lishi and Lixu.The inscription in Lishi and Lixu concludes lots of information of Han Dynasty, so they are valuable to supplementing and correcting the history books, and Shying are very important in the aspect of researching Hanweishijing and collate the Confucianist Books. Lishi and Lixu have a broad research scope which contains history, Chinese character, calligraphy and article style etc. Compared to Jigulu and Jinshilu, Lishi and Lixu is more widespread in the research scope. Simultaneously, HongKUO inherited the attitude of OuYangxiu and ZhaoMingcheng to the inscription literature, and he promotion the level of the research to inscription according to using the way of 'YIBEIZHENGBEI' and 'ERCHONGZHENGJUFA' proficiently when researching.Lishi and Lixu made a profound influence on the later Epigraphy works. The scholars of Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty modeled a lot from Lishi and Lixu.Lishi and Lixu holds a high position not only in the Epigraphy of Song Dynasty but also in the whole history of Chinese Epigraphy.
