Along with the rapid development of embedded technology, the people are getting bigger and bigger demand to the embedded product, especially for the mobile video information handling equipment. But, the current embedded development platform take the teaching as a goal, not for the purpose of the application. In this paper, on the basis of existing hardware, we have studied an application-oriented embedded development platform for the development of mobile video information processing equipment.In this paper, for the need of mobile video information processing development, We designed an application-oriented video capture,compression and transmission system on the UP-TECHPXA270 hardware platform based on XScale. Based on embedded linux operating system,The system is divided into three subsystems,they are video capture, video compression, video transmission.Therefore,the study of the paper as follows:Transplant linux operating system to UP-TECHPXA270 hardware platform. Operating system's transplant including the bootloader transplant,linux2.6.2 kernel transplant, file system transplant and The establishment of cross-compiler environment, This is the basis part of the research, we can't carry on more in-depth research until the stable system and development environment have been build.The OV511-based video capture system.The system consists of hardware and software, the hardware includes the usb camera based on the OV511 chip and LCD, the software includes related software drivers, video capture module (V4L), video display module and video storage programme.The H.263- Based video coding system. The H.263 standard is the new generation of video coding standard for the video network transmission brought forward by ITU in 1994, it has a wide range of applications in video network transmission,telephone meetings and other fields. In this paper, the video coding system compresses the video data captured by the video capture system with the H.263 standard, effectively support video data storage and transmission.The UDP-based network transmission system. The system transmits the data from the embedded platform to the PC with UDP protocol, effectively support data exchange between the embedded platform and PC. In this article, the main work of the system is transmiting the video data capruted by the capture system to the PC.These three subsystems are basic functions of the mobile video information handling equipment, are also main content of this article, they can greatly facilitate the work of embedded development and support the mobile video information handling equipment development effectively.Finally, the author put forward the objectives and future research directions based on current work.
