Today, integrated circuits design is design of SOC (system-on-chip). SOC is a kind of chip which integrates MCU, DSP, memory, I/O interface circuits etc. In this way, a single chip can realize signal sampling, signal transform, signal storage, signal processing and I/O function. IP reuse design is the basis of SOC design. Now many companies have developed several kinds of SOC bus specifications to simplify IP reuse design. AMBA (Advanced Microcontroller Bus Architecture) specification which is developed by ARM Ltd. has been a standard of embedded application. Embedded SOC chip is used widely in consumer-electronics products, and in recent years with the popularity of color mobile phone, PDA, LCD is replacing CRT as the mainstream of display devices. And as an important part of LCD display system, LCD Driver IC is in more demand. The design of LCD display system is indispensable to SOC design. Specially, LCD display system based on AMBA specification has more excellent performance.The hardware design included APB storage interface module, LCD controller module, and modeled them in VHDL hardware language. Modelsim 5.8 is used to do the functional simulation. The software design is based on the SAMSUNG S6D0110 TFT-LCD Driver IC to finish the testing program. TFT-LCD internal structure and complicated driver principle is not needed and only AMBA specification and LCD MPU parallel interface timing need to be mastered to design the practical display system.The software testing is based on the platform of Xilinx Virtexâ…ˇFF1152 PROTO board and completes the display of TFT-LCD color image. The results indicated that our system successfully fulfilled the performance requirement we expected.
