IPv6 network performance measurement and forecast are the basic tools to find IPv6 network shortcomings, improve network topology, protocols and QoS, and hold great importance for the construction of next-generation IPv6 network and research on relevant applications. In the project of"Research on IPv6 Multi-dimensional TV End System", end-to-end available bandwidth, one-way delay, delay jitter and other parameters in different paths are required for routing by application-layer multicast to transport multi-dimensional TV programs. However, currently there is no Windows tool for IPv6 network performance measurement and forecast, including end-to-end available bandwidth, one-way delay and delay jitter. So, a scheme of probing and forecasting IPv6 network performance is proposed. This paper designed and realized parallel IPv6 network performance measurement and forecast among multiple nodes on Windows, in which end-to-end available bandwidth, one-way delay and delay jitter were all measured and forecasted.First, we adopted the basic idea from Pathload—Probe Rate Model and made improvements to improve the timeliness, reduce extra overhead and ensure accuracy. Then, we used end-to-end available bandwidth as the sending rate of one-way delay measurement packets, and corrected acquired end-to-end available bandwidth according to the trend of one-way delays. Meanwhile, the measurement of average delay jitter was accomplished by certain sampling algorithm and manipulation. Lastly, we adopted AR model to make a quick forecast about each parameter. After doing lots of experiments and emulations using WinNET to check the performance of measurement and forecast, it is showed that the system of IPv6 network performance measurement and forecast not only supplied dependable data for application-layer multicast, but also was a valid tool to measure and forecast IPv6 network performance.
