ABSTRACT:With the development of internet technology and expansion of the network size, many new services are provided. And the needs of customers are constantly increasing. This situation challenges the network performance and the service quality of ISP. Considering the ISP and the whole Internet, this paper analyzes the network performance. The aim is to understand the internet deeply and be useful to ISP and Internet managers.This paper in based on the optimization of the Internet project in Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. According to the measured delay data, the information of ISP, area status and some related factors which impact the delay, this paper explores the features of the Internet, and find the factors which impact the performance. Moreover, this paper proposes an effective delay model to characterize the delay distribution.Through a wide area measurement, including the AS information, this paper analyzes the network performance on hops, delay and delay jitter. This paper analyzes the relationship between the hops and the delay time, and finds that there is not so strong relationship between them. This paper finds the place of bottle neck link has two situations. It is different in intra-ISP and inter-ISP. It may conclude that there are some problems in interconnection policy. Upon the before analyzation, this paper finds the different features of ISP. It finds that the unbalance development of the different areas. In addition, this paper analyzes the delay and delay jitter in 24-hours and different areas, and it finds some pattern and features of the delay.After the deep analyzation about the delay distribution, this paper uses the weibull models to explain the features of the delay distribution. We can use the simple weibull model with two parameters to model the delay distribution in ISPs. In contrast, we may use the complex weibull mixture model to characterize the delay in the whole Internet.From the difference performance of ISP and the whole Internet, we find the factors which affect the performance of the whole Internet. On some degree, this conclusion is useful for the ISP and the Internet managers.
