Multicast as an effective transmission technology has developed from fixed platform to mobile platform. Recently, with the development of various wireless and mobile technologies, mobile multicast becomes more important because it can provide many applications such as mobile conferences, on-line games.Mobile multicast has to solve both dynamic group membership and the mobility problem of multicast entities such as multicast source and multicast receiver. Multicast Listener Discovery (MLD) protocol are used to manage the dynamic membership for IPv6 (IGMP for IPv4), while they cannot maintain the multicast states for mobile multicast entities. To solve this problem, they need to support both link layer handover such as WLAN and network layer handover such as Mobile IPv6 and its extensions. However, these specifications cannot provide an effective mechanism to support mobile multicast. In this paper, we mainly study these problems based on the experimentation and analysis, and concern on the research of light-weight mobile multicast, multi-hop MLD protocol, multicast in Proxy Mobile IPv6, multicast in multi-homing environment, and universal network mobile multicast architecture. The main research work and conclusions are shown as following:1. To reduce the impact of the multicast routing protocols under mobile scenario, this paper proposes a MLD proxy based light-weight mobile multicast scheme. This scheme simplifies the MLD proxy function on the HA and the MLD host part functions in the MN to reduce the signaling exchange between the HA and the MN. Besides, to solve the tunnel convergence problem, this paper proposes a tunnel combination and reconstruction algorithm. The experimental and analytical results show that it can reduce the multicast handover delay and protocol cost.2. To provide the multicast group management for mobile subscribers, this paper proposes a Multi-Hop MLD (MHMLD) protocol based on the MLD. The MHMLD extends the forwarding scope of multicast join message, and sets up the multicast states for mobile nodes to manage the mobile subscribers, which are compatible with the MLD. The analytical and simulation results shows that the MHMLD can reduce the multicast join delay compared with the other mobile multicast schemes. Besides, with the assistance of the mobility predictive algorithms, it can also reduce the multicast tree maintenance cost. 3. Mobility support specifications have a deep impact on the mobile multicast. Based on implementation, this paper researches the performance of Proxy MIPv6 deeply, and the experimental results show that the Proxy MIPv6 can reduce the handover delay as well as protocol cost and improve mobile handover performance. So, based on the Proxy MIPv6, this paper proposes two mobile multicast schemes and compares them with the other mobile multicast schemes by theoretical analysis, and gives the detailed applied scenarios. The results show that the Proxy Mobile IPv6 multicast can improve the performance of the multicast service.4. To implement the mobile multicast in multi-homing environment, this paper proposes a multi-homing mobile multicast framework, and analyzes the problems in multi-interface, heterogeneous environment. Besides, this paper implements a multi-homing mobile multicast scheme based on multiple Care-of Address to provide seamless mobile multicast service for multi-interface terminals. The results show that the multi-homing mobile multicast can achieve the seamless multicast handover.5. The main problem of mobile multicast is that the traditional multicast service model can not provide the mobility support. Based on the research of the multicast in new network architecture, this paper proposes a new identity multicast routing mechanism in Universal Network, analyzes its performance characteristic and describes its mobile multicast support mechanism. The proposed scheme can provide the multicast source authentication, access authentication, accounting and mobile multicast. This paper includes 91 graphics, 13 tables, and 118 references.
