"World Journal" occupies an important position in the development of Chinese modern private newspapers, the supplement of it-the "Pearl" has played an important role in promoting. In this paper, the survival of the supplement of "Pearl" 12-year's history has been studied by different hosts' editorial character, and its content and characteristics during different stages have also been revealde .The development of the supplement of "Pearl" experienced Zhang Hen shui,Zuo Xiao hong,Pan Fu gong,Zhou Zuo ren, who presided over the different times. It can be said Zhang Hen shui's created a brilliant stage of the supplement of "pearl". In order to attract readers he passed a series of popular novels , meanwhile his purpose of "free from political" made the "pearl" survive from the harsh political conditions . Zhang Hen shui has done a lot for the development of it. Zuo Xiao hong is another hero for it. He guided readers to steer away from the low level of interest and made this supplement go on a healthy development path. This method of far from political again guided readers' reading going on toward a easy life with a positive attitude. It is undoubted that this idea was a great factor for the success of " Pearl ". This article has studied the different phases of the supplements of "Pearl" from Editor's Note, and it sums up characteristics and its causes of the "pearl" in different times, with a view to the founder of the modern newspaper supplements providing some useful lessons.
