The Design And Implementation Of Policy Management In CNGI QoS Management System

Different kinds of new applications grow rapidly and the sense of everything over IP is accepted by more and more people, which make the IP network become a unified platform providing multi-service. However, IP can not provide QoS guarantees for multi-media services which are sensitive to delay, jitter and packet loss for its "best effort" transport nature. So, how to provide QoS guarantees on IP network has become the crucial problem in Internet development. In addition, with the increase of network management complexity and the requirement of the QoS management, the traditional network management can not solve these problems well. So, a new network management way is badly needed to meet these problems aforementioned.The National Development and Reform Commission project "Research and Implementation on China Next Generation Internet QoS" aims at devising a controllable, manageable and operatable unified IP QoS system supporting IPv4/IPv6 networks. The policy management of the system using policies to control QoS mechanisms, resource planning and billing is to maintain the consistence of different equipment's behaviors, which makes the system more manageable and operatable.Firstly, we analyzed and compared 3 main IP QoS models. The solution used in CNGI QoS system is also described. Then we introduced the policy-based network management model which is proposed by IETF, after which, we proposed a policy management framework depending on the PDP (Policy Decision Point). The framework combines the QoS mechanism and the policy-based network management technologies and converts the QoS mechanism, billing and resource into policy according to the requirement of QoS management system. Considering the flexibility and compatibility, we adopted the CORBA communication mechanism and network agent conception. In order to make the policy management more accurate, we proposed the policy modifying model. We described all the models of the policy management structure by detail, including requirement analysis, design and implementation. In the end, after sum-up of the whole thesis, current shortcomings of the framework and future work were depicted. Also, the work and research during master was listed.
