Software Performance Testing emerged as the software system, with enormous data and users, has become increasingly abundant and complicated in the recent years. It is indispensable to conduct the testing before the operation of any large-scale application system to avoid the potentially serious consequences which might be caused by the imperfect softwares. The study was based on the theories of the Performance Testing General Model and the Barbershop Model, which are widely adopted by performance testing staff due to its being easy to understand and apply. The PTGM model partitions the complex testing process into several definite steps, thus the procedure could be simplified by inspecting the results of each step. When it comes to distinguishing the best concurrent users and the largest number of concurrent users, performance testing staff could resort to the Barbershop Model, which clearly reflects the reponse of the system. This study, which was a real performance testing case on the Portal and OA system in Electric Power Company of X Province, conducted a series of performance testing and optimizing with these two models, experienced test preparations, the introduction of testing tools, testing plan, test design and development, test implementation and management, and testing analysis and successfully optimized the performance bottlenecks discovered in the system and came up to performance expectations. The significance of the study is, based on a real case, it practically played a role in promoting the application development of Performance Testing by using the Performance Testing General Model and the Barbershop Model, and also in development and supplementation of the Performance Testing General Model.
