With the economic globalization and the sustained growth of logistics the port operation is becoming larger, heavier and faster accordingly, which made a new demand for the management of operation devices. As a frame of port machinery, metal structure is enduring the weight of transmission mechanism itself and other load. Metal structure's working condition relates directly to the whole machine's operation performance, safety and reliability. Malfunctions could cause great direct and indirect loss. The online monitoring system in port machinery has realized the real state monitoring in port machinery. It has changed the traditional monitoring means which is mainly done by artificial, and has improved the automatic degree of the port machinery monitoring greatly. It also has improved the reaction speed to the mechanical structure damage and bursting affair. It helps to shorten the time to infer and repair the malfunction, thus increases the hours of running well and improve the productive efficiency.An important problem of the long term real-time online monitoring is how to transmit the datum signal. Wire transmission may need a large number of electric wire cables, but in the production scene with abominable environment these cables are extremely easy to be destroyed and caused that the signal is distorted and even can't transmit; moreover, there is still a problem of signal decay in the wired circuit and the easily damage to the equibment and the signal transmission by the natural calamity such as lightning etc. Compared with the wired data transmission, there are many advantages to utilize the wireless network to carry on wireless data transmission: Not needing extensive circuit hardware fund to input, the systematic construction speed is fast, only needs to erect several aerials, adaptability is good, hardly restricted by objective environments, such as geography,etc, the expanding is good, the system only needs to link the newly-increased equipment with system while expanding, it is simple and convenient to safeguard the system.As the fast development of communication technology, it turned into a convenience way to transmit data through GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) between long distance more and more. The author used this method in this paper. This port machinery remote online monitoring system consisted of three parts: data acquisition, data transmission and data processing. The first part was designed to gather the state information of the port machinery and send the data to the dynamic strain gauge as certain mode. The second part was designed to transfer the data to the clients in remote control center through Internet. With the implementation of real-time online monitoring network, users can browse the on-the-spot data in any place.The paper of the stress of the port machinery stucture as target, based on the characteristics of metal structure, combined with the idiographic working condition, used modern machinery testing and experiment technology as the method, and adopted traditional Strain Gauge Electric Metering technology to study online monitor of the stress of port machinery structure. It also brought forward a scheme for online monitor system of port machinery structure stress and introduced hardware component and software structure thoroughly. According to the study of the real time monitoring system in port machinery, we put forward a design of real time monitoring system based on wireless data transmission. Using of the existing network resources and taking advantages of the high network coverage rate and good transmission characteristics, it provide a convenient way to transmit data. Technical condition of port machinery structures can be well informed with it. It is reliable and of high application value.This paper has four parts. The first part introduced the systematic structure and operation principle of GPRS, sketched TCP/IP network technology principle at the same time and has analysed its realization and improvement in GPRS network. The second part was mainly about the Strain Gauge Electric Metering technique, and analyzed the principle and method of Strain Gauge Electric Metering. The third part introduced the hardware parts of online monitor system of port machinery structure stress, analysed data acquisition unit,data transmission unit and data processing unit of the system, and mainly discussed the data wireless transmission scheme. The fourth part introduced software part of the system, including data acquisition and data display and processing developed with Visual Basic. The research achievements of the paper have provided useful experience and lessons for the on-line montoring in port machinery.
