With the increasing requirement for high bandwidth in the embedded image processing system, an economy, agility, high-speed transport platform that goes long distances, supports all sorts of networking and processing options, has an important impact on image stream transmission. The embedded image processing system can integrate with the advanced gigabit Ethernet technology very well, by this way, the speed of the system can be increased to 1000 Mbps. Therefore, the embedded gigabit Ethernet system can be widely used in Embedded Industry production-line Imaging Examination System area, and intelligence measurement etc.This paper investigates the embedded gigabit Ethernet system based on high-speed digital signal processor. Since the digital signal processor has limited resource, it is incapable of realizing the complex TCP/IP protocol, a new structure consist of high-speed DSP and gigabit Ethernet controller is designed in this paper. The work has been done as follows:(1) Develop the whole structure for the embedded gigabit Ethernet system based on high-speed digital signal processor. Investigate the PCI communication circuit for the central control unit and the gigabit Ethernet control unit, thus, relieve the communication speed restriction through high-speed bus.(2) The high-speed DSP is used to control the gigabit Ethernet controller based on the TCP/IP protocol. The purpose-build hardware helps to alleviate the burden of DSP. By this way, the system can achieve high bandwidth with limited CPU utilization. In order to control the function of the gigabit Ethernet controller, DSP use a structure ring to manage Receive Descriptor and Transmit Descriptor, thus, relieve the system speed restriction through software function.(3) Build the maximum system speed module according to the bottleneck speed of the system. With the help of Matlab, the curve of the maximum system speed can be acquired, and, therefore, the system's important parameters are optimized. Finally, based on the model, the maximum speed of the device's can reach 949Mbps.
