SDI (Serial Digital Interface) is the most popular digital video interface at present. The interface, which is defined by Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers-259M and European Broadcast Union-Tech-3267, has been adopted as a standard video interface by numerous manufacturers of video facility in the world. It is mostly used in nonlinear edit system, video server, dummy studio, digital switching matrix and Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy and so on.On the base of studying the principle of SDI, this article proposes a solution to a Standard Definition Serial Digital Interface based on FPGA aiming at the disadvantages of former realizing methods of SDI. Moreover, a Nios II processor system is set up by SOPC Builder to embed the input or output interface in the form of IP core in order to improve the system integration level. This interface has advantages of high video data processing speed, better real time character and high performance-price ratio. The main research work is as follows:1. On the base of analyzing the hardware configuration of SDI and its realizing principle, present an embedded system design method of SDI, and accomplish the FPGA programming and hardware design of drivers, equalizer and power supply.2. Adopt soft logic to implement SDI transceiver functions, program and simulate for each function module.3. Introduce Nios II embedded soft core processor to process received video data, design the video data collecting program.This transmitting system take Cyclone II EP2C35F672C8 of Altera company as key chip, it can transmit standard definition video data by the transmitter and receiver's work, primary establish the whole mode of this digital video signal transmission system which takes SDI as data source.
