The target detection and identification ability of image intensifier tube (IIT) under very low light level condition is determined by the product of the signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) and resolution, the signal noise ratio of HT can be improved by increasing the photocathode sensitivity and reducing the noise factor of MCP; and the MTF and resolution of IIT can be enhanced by reducing the channel pore of MCP and improving the proximity focused electrostatic field system. So, the developments of low noise high resolution MCP, for improving and enhancing HT' s target detection and identification ability, is of great importance. The main content of this thesis is listed as following:1. The development trends of IIT Night Vision technologies are basically summarized, the characterization and performance of MCPs which used for Gen III tube are expatiated.2. The principle, characteristics and parameters of MCP are reviewed. MCP's noise mechanism, MCP's ion feedback mechanism, the ion barrier film effect and influence on Gen III tube, and MCP resolution character, are the emphasis of expatiation and analysis.3. Low noise high resolution MCP develops work is summarized; the glasses composition is optimized and MCP manufacture process is researched; and this high performance MCP measurement and test result is reviewed and discussed. The 6 micrometer channel diameter high performance MCP which fabricated by this optimized glass having nearly 70% open area ratio by adopted special etching processes, and adopt higher temperature hydrogen reduction to ensure it can withstand up to 500°C vacuum bake process. In Gen. IIItube experiment, this MCP shows much compatible to ion barrier film and the low noise factor character than standard MCP, which can significantly improved the signal-noise-ratio of Gen. III tube, but the MTTF test can not meet the standard.5. The whole thesis is summarized in the last, and present problems are pointes out and the further research work is suggested.
