In recent years, with the development of Chinese software industry, particularly in the area of Japanese outsourcing projects, software quality, as a long term problem, has become even more prominent. Establishing a mature software development process to improve software management and software quality comes to be practically significance. In the late 1980s, the software industry raised the theory of CMM (Capability Maturity Model), which describes various software stages (Definition, Implementation, Measurement, Process Control and Process Improvement) of software process in a software organization. The core of CMM is to treat software development as a process and in accordance with this principle, by monitoring and researching in the whole software process.we can make the process more considerable and standardized, so that enterprises can better achieve their business goals. This paper introduces the concept of CMM and SPI, as well as the significance of their implementation. Through describing my company's software process principles and policies, it shows a practical application of CMM in software enterprises. Then, in view of the problems on software development in Japanese outsourcing project, the project team practises SPI under the framework of CMM. By repeated activities in SPI cycle, we find that our software quality and production efficiency has made great improvement, thus verifying that CMM and SPI is an effective solution for those problems occurring with software development in Japanese outsourcing project.
