Patrolling and checking is a key method to prevent gas accidents but this method has been facing many problems for years: there is too much manual data entry work and it is difficult to ensure patrolman's safety; it is inconvenient to search for histories and not mention to do some analysis against raw data and records.In the perspective of safety gas collecting from an unusual environment of underground mines, this paper proposed a SDR based underground gas collecting system which enable patrolman to do the data collecting without going to the spot, to assure the safety of patrolman and a better prevention of gas accidents.Through comparing the more common several kinds of SDR wireless communication technology in the operating frequency, the power loss, the transmission speed and the number of network equipment connection, by the demand of collecting coal gas, one coal gas concentration collection system based on the ZigBee technology is introduced to realize the information collection of coal gas. Based on the ARM hardware platform, the embedded linux software platform and the Zigbee technology, the project design and proof has been brought forward. In the hardware aspect, the gas sensor circuit, the wireless module peripheral circuit as well as the ARM7 nuclear core circuit have been designed and realized. The bootloader transplant, the uClinux transplant as well as the program of date acquisition and transmission have been realized in the software aspect. Finally, the design and implementation of the gas collection was tested. The result tested in the simulation tunnel indicates that this system may realize the 9600bit/s data collection and transmission in 30 meters scopes, achieves the design requirements basically.
