Automobile power steering pump (APSP) is the heart of the automobile power steering system. The stator curve is the most important factor which impact on the vibration and noise of the steering pump. Although we have been studying up on it for many years, and breaking through in many fields, there is a great disparity in the advanced technology of the controlling of noise between the home and abroad. In this paper, the author uses the technology of reverse engineering to reconstruct the stator CAD model by studying the APSP which produced by the Shaanxi Qinchuan Machinery Development Co., Ltd. At the same time the precision of the reverse result is analyzed in detail. This paper provides a new method to innovate and redesign the machinery production for our country.At first this paper introduces the reverse engineering summarily, including its conception, background, meaning, development, excellent RE software and so on. Then the author analyzes the key technologies of the reverse engineering, such as data acquirement, data pretreatment, 3D surface reconstruction and precision analysis. All of these provide a theoretical and technical support for the reconstruction of the stator CAD model.In the next part, the author studies on the stator transition curve of the automobile power steering pump, analyzes the constant acceleration and deceleration curve and the higher order curve, and introduces the 5 order curve in detail. By this way, it provides a theoretical support for the data fitting.In this research, the point cloud of the sample of the APSP was obtained by the 3D laser scanner. The point clouds are pretreated by Imageware and the 3D geometrical modeling is rebuilt by Imageware too. The precision analysis shows that the error was small enough to meet the request in engineering. It realized the expected goal basically in the system. And,how to use Reverse Engineering in improving design as creative tool is studied. At the end of the paper, the research conclusion and prospect are given by the author in the subject.
