Started from the measurement of existing object, reverse engineering segments, organize, and restructure the measured data. And then makes its geometrical model. It is widely used in mould manufacturing, automobile, aviation, shipbuilding, and clinic area.For solving the problems of surface reconstruction, tolerance analysis, product re-design and so on, this thesis has a exhaustive study to the research field and relation theories of the reverse engineering.At first this paper introduces the reverse engineering summarily, including it's background, meaning, conception, development and key technology. Then the surface reconstruction that includes data fitting and fairing technology is studied mainly and many fitting methods are analyzed in all respects, including compare their advantages and disadvantages, At last some reasonable methods are selected and is used in cams' reverse engineering that are parts of cigarette machine at high speed, At the same time the precision of the reverse result is analyzed in detail.Using Visual C+ + the author has developed the cams' reverse system (CARS 1.0), it can do those works: dealing with the data measured, calculating the control points, creating the curves, analyzing the tolerance. And it can export the standard data exchange files 桪XF graph exchange file, through it the curves or surfaces that reconstructed in CARS 1.0 can be import into many universal CAD/CAM system, So that entity modeling, mechanical motion emulation and naumerical control emulation easily and conveniently.
