The OTA Technology Research Based-On SIM/USIM Card

With the high-speed development of the technology of mobile communication system, more and more applications based on this system are implemented, such as mobile payment, mobile phone electric business and electric package, OTA used in SIM card, etc. Those applications benefit both user and service provider. Hence, it is significant to provide secure applications in mobile communication system.The second generation mobile communication system, especially the GSM system takes SIM card as users' identity authentication module. SIM card not only has the function to identify users' identities in security, but also can be the running platform for many GSM applications since it is appended the SIM Toolkit (STK) function. OTA is one of those GSM applications. The third generation mobile communication system put forward the concept of Universal SIM card to construct a new smart card platform, which is applied into 3G access security and muti-application development. This platform also has a set of toolkit (USAT), which has the same but more powerful function as STK. Moreover, a lot of new technique is introduced in to add the security of application and the efficiency of application development.The author and her task group have taken up with the development of all kinds of application in SIM/USIM card, especially the individual OTA development form many provinces, which include the design and coding. Supported by those projects, the author studied the security technique, the implement technique and the improvement technique of OTA. After theoretical analysis and engineering implementation, some contributions are acquired, which are including: 1. The security mechanism of SIM card, USIM card and OTA, and new technique in USIM card are analyzed and summarized. Based on the author' s experience from projects, more security technique in SIM card and USIM card is summarized, and the new technique in USIM card is primarily discussed.2. The security characteristic of OTA server is researched. Combining the framework of OTA server, the security threaten of this system is analyzed comprehensively. The measure to keep attacks away is also provided by this paper.3. The engineering implementation of OTA technology in SIM card is as presentation. How to implement OTA project in SIM card is firstly analyzed, then the whole framework of this project and the detail design of the module taken charge by the author are expounded in detail.4. Certain improvement of OTA technology is brought forward. Based on the author's experience from projects, some parts of OTA technology which can be improved are put forward boldly, aiming to make OTA technique more convenient and safe in use.
