Forest fire is one of the most dangerous world wide disasters. Once it happens, we must take measures as soon as possible. This paper introduces the design of the embedded forest fireproofing system based on ARM. The system can be wirelessly monitored by video from far away. It uses the USB web-camera with the chip of ZC301, which is low in price and high in quality. Through the module of GPRS, pictures will be sent back to the remote monitoring center. The automatic alarm module will raise the alarm as soon as the fire happens, and it helps the governor to find and resolve the fire at the first time.With regard to the hardware design, the embedded video capture system which consists of USB camera and S3C2410 as its CPU, together with the PC which is connected by GPRS, compose the video monitoring system.As far as the software design, the system software and the internet applications must be designed. First we must put the BootLoader and embedded Linux kernel to the target of ARM platform. Then a system of video capturing and a GPRS module need to be designed to run on the platform of ARM. In the end we should design a remote monitoring center.The terminal monitor is designed to execute multiple tasks which are completed mainly by Linux multi-threads programming; Monitor center is B/S structure based on J2EE and it uses MVC design pattern. Remote monitoring center is an applied platform for users to log in, monitor, operate, and manage. With remote monitoring center, on-site environment can be monitored and managed.
