Abstract/Summary:
Wireless Sensor Networks is one of the hottest research topics since 21st century. The low-power wireless sensor and control networks are extending the capabilities of factory automation systems to physical spaces and functions never before possible. Since emergence of the huge potential Sensor Internet, most challenges are related with dealing with large volume of data from sensor network and responding to a variety of client requests. This thesis describes a wireless sensor network edge server that we design and implement to improve data processing in WSN effectively.Our wireless sensor network edge server is a middleware that deployed at remote sites where there are sensors and RFID readers, such as warehouses, distribution centers, and retail stores, for processing the physical data and reporting that data to applications. The server is made up of six components, including kernel module, device management module, event filtering module, complex events processing module, interface module and configuration management module. Kernel implements the basic and core function of the server. The device management module provides connectivity to various sensors and RFID readers from different manufacturers, is the unify device management point that facilitating device installation and update. Event filtering module takes the physical data from wireless sensor network, fulfill the filter function to reduce data volume and extract useful information as events, and complex events processing module will take pattern recognition and matching, and then trigger appropriate application logic. The interface module and configuration management module provide an easy way to access the edge server and allow flexible configuration for certain properties and features extension.To prove our design and implementation and do performance analysis, we take two simulators, one for client application requests generation and the other for wireless sensor simulation. Experimental result shows that the server's function and low response latency is satisfied with presently application of wireless sensor network.The effort on wireless sensor network edge server is just the first step of our work playing with the tremendous wireless sensor data, further study is still carrying on.
