RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is a fast and efficient automaticidentification technology and data capture techniques. With the development of RFIDtechnology, its application field has become increasingly widespread, such as automatedmanagement, supply chain, retail management, goods warehouse management andairport baggage management act. RFID middleware is one of the key technologies ofRFID industry and received wide attention. RFID middleware is between backgroundapplications and front-end reader program, and its main task is to process the datareading by the RFID reader. This process include tag data filtering, data grouping, dataaggregation, and other operations, which can reduce the raw data uploaded to theapplication.This paper focuses on the design and implementation of the RFID middlewarearchitecture and core functional modules. This RFID middleware based onALE(Application Level Events) specification and its features are as follows: First, itmade up of management center and middleware servers, middleware servers scattered invarious places, and it is the management center’s reponsiblity to dispatch them, so thatthe middleware system can handle multiple events at the same time. Second, themiddleware server is designed and implemented according to the ALE standard. Third,the middleware server is composed of four modules, including: equipment managementmodule, data processing module, encryption algorithm module and event processingmodule. Fourth, the system has high scalabity and has nothing to do with the applicationthough using COM component technology to complete the whole system. Fifth, theencryption algorithm module provides four different kinds of encryption algorithms thatmake it possible for different users to choose different encryption algorithm to encryptdata according to their own requirement of the level of data security and real-timedemand of data processing.The test results of the core functionality of the widdleware show that all themodules the ALE-based desktop RFID middleware acts well and it also has better expandability and stability.In the middleware different devices can be compatible and itsaccuracy to read tag can fit100%. It also can process the tag data faster and accuratly.Through enciphered data, it can protect the tag data better. Finally, the whole function isverified by using the application created by our laboratory, the RFID smart librarymanagement system.
