With the development of the technology of IOT (Internet of Things) and thegrowth of IOT application, the IOT sensor level devices are becoming moremulti-functional and more portable. Based on these facts, middleware, which is capableof more easily system updating, function adding and low power management, wasdesigned and implemented on an IOT portable device with RFID reader, GPS module,bar-code scanner and video server. The architecture of middleware based on MVC (Model View and Controller).wasdesigned in the paper. Each Model corresponded to a specific module, handing sensedinformation; the Controller managed all the Models and provides standard data accessinterface; the View mainly handled GUI (graphic user interface). With such modelingand leveling design, modules were loosely connected, which is easier to update eachmodule or add new modules. This architecture of middleware, including ISO/IEC18000-6B/6C UHF RFID,bar-code scanning, GPS locating, video capturing and so on, was implemented onFreescale’s MX27platform. Besides, to better utilize the platform’s codec feature, avideo server capable of hardware coding and decoding in full duplex mode wasimplemented. As a part of whole middleware, the video server separated video capturingand video coding, video receiving and video decoding; captured video data or receivedvideo data was transferred to coding thread or decoding thread by means of bufferedFIFO; at the same time, video capturing speed was adjusted by the length of the FIFO;with such design, both real-time and fluent video transferring was achieved.
