With the advent of value-added services in the IP network, such as VoIP and distributed gaming, which require high degree of performance and stability, network operators are now paying considerable attention to the performance of the routing infrastructure. From the result set of routing performance, they can track the network connectivity and traffic loads easily, deploy and maintain the network efficiently, and resolve the trouble quickly. We implement this system as a passive measurement. Each monitor node pretends to be a router in order to communicate with other routers in the network. By monitoring different adaptive routing protocols, such as BGP,OSPF,RIP and IS-IS, this system gets the network topology within different ranges and routing performance parameters. In this paper, we present detailed architecture and implementation of the system for one of the widely used intra-domain routing protocols—IS-IS. ISIS-Monitor has two components, separating several monitor nodes and one management node. Every monitor node is responsible for monitoring one or two areas' two-level topology, by updating renewed link state database, it sends result to the management node, and the management node is responsible to merge and display the result from all the monitor nodes. The system has been successfully deployed on our lab testbed, where the functionality and stability are evaluated. The real-time and accurate analysis provides the facilities for network maintenance.Firstly, this paper introduced the research background and content; Secondly, it described the routing protocol related knowledge and the development of the route monitoring technology; Then it summarized the goal of our system, addressed the route monitoring system to track two-level topology, and analyzed the testcases for different scenes. Finally, it indicated expectations of the system.
