With the development of power electronics, serious harmonic pollution increasingly because of large-scale use of inverters and other nonlinear loads. Power quality and user-security issues have become increasingly prominent. And then people pay more and more attention to the Harmonic and reactive problem. APF (Active Power Filter) is a new power electronic devices which used to dynamically suppress harmonics, reactive power compensation. It can change the size and frequency of the harmonic as well as changes in reactive power compensation. Active Power Filter has high requirements of the real-time and compensation effect in practice.Firstly, the basic principle of the Active Power Filter is introduced in the paper. Then variety of control strategies that could use in the APF is introduced too. According to the choice of classification, shunt active power filter as an object of study. And then, make a detailed derivation of based of instantaneous reactive theory of three-phase harmonic detection method and Space Vector PWM control strategy used in this article.Based on the programs of current detection and compensation, design of the whole APF system for software and hardware is finished. The hardware circuit including:voltage and current sampling circuit, DSP control board circuit and main circuit design of circuit parameters. With the help of MATLAB, the model simulations are designed based on various parts and overall of the shunt APF. Simulation results show that the harmonic currents play a role in better compensation and the compensation has good dynamic characteristics.
