In recent years, China's agricultural web sites having been developing very quickly. The Agricultural Information Institute of The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences has developed an agricultural professional search engine――"nong sou"for professional agricultural users. In order to improve the accuracy of the agricultural professional search engine, needed to design and implement the MIS of agricultural website-metadata imminently, so that "nong sou" can crawl web pages more effectively by the accurate information of sites that MIS provided.In addition, the MIS established a the valid foundation of description, location, preservation, assessment and retrieval for agricultural sites. The paper researched and analysised the agricultural site and "DC" meta-data firstly, preliminarily designed the metadata standard of agricultural web sites resource description.According to the standard, explicited the descriptive content method of web sites level and column level based on the requirements of "nong sou" for agricultural websites. Otherwise, the paper explored the relevant algorithm of meta-data automatically extract, designed and implemented a metadata management system for agricultural web sites in the end.In this paper, the research achievements are as follows:1. By consultting of metadata standards at home and abroad (The main reference are DC metadata and the Chinese metadata standards framework), combining the characteristics of the agricultural web sites, preliminarily designed the metadata standard for agricultural web sites.2. In order to meet the application needs of"nong sou", expanded and subdivided the standard to go a step further, and designed metadata items for the description and management of websites and the website-columns on the basis of the agricultural sites metadata standards.3. Depending on the HTML rules and method about the semantic analysis of web pages(using SDD algorithm), analyzed every metadata involved in the website metadata management system, and preliminarily designed the algorithm of the metadata automatic extraction.4. Designed and implemented a metadata management system for agricultural websites in the B / S mode.
