The wireless and mobile devices become more and more popular with the ordinary people in the information society. As Java has been widely used in the wireless field, the mobile application system based on the Java ME platform has gradually dominated the field of mobile applications because of its convenient properties and its irreplaceable trans-platform advantage. This thesis discusses how to expand traditional information systems to mobile application systems both in theory and practice, so as to increase the value in enterprise services, improve the running efficiency, and promote the image of the enterprise. The architecture of the Java ME platform, Generic Connection Frame (GCF), Record Management System (RMS), security model and the development of MIDlets are discussed in this thesis. At present, many web applications are built in java; this thesis presents the integration of Java ME and Web application by an instance. The web application related technology, XML, the interface design of MIDlets, the contact between client and server, the access to the database by JDBC, the transmission and processing of data are introduced. This part with emphasis expounds how to transfer and process data between client and server by XML.Web Services is a very fashionable technology at present. This thesis also gives an example demonstrating the coalescent of Java ME and Web Services. The concept, architecture, standards and protocols of Web Services, JAX-WS 2.0, JSR 172 and data source are told. In the instance, it mainly describes how to build Web Services using the new standard JAX-WS and how to employ the Web Services in the Java ME client by JSR 172.The creative points in the thesis are as following: implementating connect between the Java ME client and Web application by XML, building Web Services with JAX-WS 2.0 and accessing to Web Services with JSR 172. The development environment and running configuration of the two demo applications are discussed in the thesis. The applications have also been tested in the Sony Ericsson K510C mobile phone and runs well in it. Facts have proved that Java ME client can run well with Web application and Web Services.
