With the rapid development of Computer Science and Technology, Software applications have been gradually expanded, and the development scale and costs have been gradually increased. Meanwhile, the software quality has increasingly become the focus of attention. Although Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI), which is established by Software Engineering Institute from the Carnegie Mellon University in USA, can effectively improve the software process, this improvement can not be separated from data's analysis in the various stages of software development. So the process metric, as a means of getting these data, is particularly important. According to such a background, this paper studies the process metric based on CMMI software process improvement. This paper summarizes the theory of process metric and CMMI and analyzes the existing software process metric model. Then the discussion focused on the relationship between "Metric Goal" in GQIM model and "Special Goal" in CMMI2 Process Area and a process metric model based on CMMI software process improvement is proposed. At the same time, a process metric data-base is built and a prototype system tool is implemented. Meanwhile, the paper presents the overall design, system architecture, database conceptual model and the main function modules. Finally, it analyzes process data by means of statistical process control (SPC) to find out the problems that exist in the software process. The purpose and significance of this research is to help small and medium-size software organizations to get a set of software metric solution and improve the software development process continuously from planning, data collection and metric analysis. Thus it can help software enterprises to arrange schedule reasonably, control cost effectively, adjust intermediate results timely, reduce maintenance costs and ultimately obtain high-quality software products.
