The interactive personal Television (IPTV) is a new service shape that uses family Television set and computer as terminal to provide various interactive digital media service (includes digital television) through wide band network and Internet Protocol (IP). In order to provide"Convergence of Three Networks"service, the CATV is reconstruct from the unilateralism broadcasting network to the bilateral interactive network and the traditional telecom network is evolving to the next generation network ( NGN ) . The IPTV service is the initial service of the"Convergence of Three Networks". The IP network edge QAM-IPQAM discussed in this paper is the front terminal of the IPTV service. It's most important equipment of the IPTV system, which has a broad market prospect.The paper firstly analyses the requirements for IPQAM from aspects of function demand, performance demand and interface demand to make clear the function and performance needed for the IPQAM and its effect in the HFC network and IPTV system.Based on the function requirement, this paper has a collectively project design for the IPQAM, and plots the IPQAM, which acts as the gateway equipment between the IP network and HFC network, into 5 parts: data-exchange module, main-controlling module, QAM-modulating module, up-frequency-conversion module and power-supplying module, and also applies the modularize means to develop. Though research on the main structure of the system, the paper fixes the demands and interface standard of each module and provide reference for the design for the software and hardware, also confirms the shapes of the hardware construction of the IPQAM. Owing to the complication of the IPQAM device, time limitation and different work division, the paper emphasizes partially on the design of main-controlling module and its interfaces with other modules.According to the research goals and the network environment which equipments are applied, linking to principle of the hardware designing and consulting the technology parameters of system needs, the main-controlling module and the interfaces of other modules are expatiated in this thesis. After the comparison with other hardware schemes, Samsung S3C2410 is selected as the processor of main-controlling module. In ethernet interface, DM9000A of DAVICOM is adopted to receive transport stream. And according to actual needs of equipment, papers also focus on the design of Hot Swap and PCR (Program Clock Reference) adjustment method, which is one of the key technologies of transport stream multiplexing.In the last, the paper simulated the hardware function for the hardware circuit designed and made according modification aiming at the simulation results, also finished the execution and the debugging of the main-controlling module and the outer-ethernet interface.
