The television operators face unprecedented challenges, with the cable television is transiting from analog to digital and the implementation of triple play, the only way for them is building their own IPTV. The proposed IPQAM is one solution for the problem in this article.The main content of this article is the hardware design and implementation of the IP-QAM system.This system is divided into the following hardware modules according to the function to IPQAM, Gigabit Ethernet switch modules, Gigabit PHY module, the flow cache and the multiplexing module, QAM modulation module, a variable gain amplifier module, the up-converter module and the network management module. This article includes the designing and debugging of these modules. It also provides the detail process of calculate of the up-converter module and clock distribution module, but it introduces simplify modules such as network management module. The Gigabit PHY module and QAM modulate module are the important contents of this article.In this article, it introduces the catching net packet of the Gigabit PHY module, and 55MHz and 880MHz clock output of the clock distribution module, and one frequency signal and one carrier wave and fore carrier waves of the QAM modules.Then, we test the IF and RF signals of QAM modulator using spectrum analyzer, and the Signal indicators are described in detail. Some indicators are introduced, such as SNR and MER, which are important for QAM modulators.At the end, we raised prospect of the further research and development of IPQAM with the market of IPQAM.
