With the rapid development of economy and technology, the wireless video surveillance technology is becoming a research hotspot and has a broad application prospect. This thesis focuses on developing an embedded wireless video surveillance system. This system takes high performance DSP chip TMS320DM642 as its core, and consists of video capture module, RS485 module and video transmission module. It can capture three channels of video signals simultaneously and encode them in MPEG-4 standard, and also collect the working states of field devices through RS485, then the selected video can be transmitted to the remote computer by using DTU-800X, which is a CDMA data module, to implement real-time monitor.RF5 (Reference Framework level 5) and DSP/BIOS real-time kernel are both used in the software design. Considering the complexity of DSP application system, we adopt the improved "class/mini-driver model" to develop the drivers of video capture devices and RS485 devices, which allows software reuse of major portions of similar device drivers and simplifies the driver development process. DM642 connects with DTU-800X through McBSP(multichannel Buffered Serial Port) with the assistance of EDMA, which can greatly enhance the system's efficiency because it can transfer data without CPU's participation. Based on this, we realize the wireless video transmission with TCP and UDP respectively, and compare the advantages and disadvantages between the two different ways. Besides of that, the heartbeat signal is used to improve the reliability of the system. The last part concludes the paper and discusses about some relevant improvement methods.
