Electronic Program Guide (EPG) is one of the very important applications of the Dig-ital TV (DTV) and is the gateway for the consumers watching the Digital TV. By EPG,consumers can enjoy the luxuriant information services by browsing the programs expedi-ently, learning the information completely, and orienting the positions efficiently. Now Chi-nese government has been paid more and more attention to DTV. DTV set top box (STB)is an important product driving DTV industry during current ATV and DTV coexistenceperiod.EPG's performance is an important point when consumers buy a STB.This paper first deeply analyses program special information (PSI) and serviceinformation (SI), introduces the main information of tables in PSI and SI. The mainfunction of PSI is de-multiplexed and decoded the program stream of MUX stream,found the program and the stream needs to be decompressed. DVB-SI which providesnetwork,bouquet,service and event information is the main content for EPG. Usingproper organization of SI can provides various information for consumers.Based on thecomprehension to those standards,the architecture of hardware and software in the STB isresearched into, included the modules and function of the user application software. thehow to organize the SI to realize program search,program guide,service sort guide andNear Video On Demand (NVOD) is detail by detail discussed. Using binary tree to storeNVOD information can save memory and improve the search speed.At the end of thisthesis, a upgrade design based on cable network is simply introduced. Now, the productionof the design is applied to the digital products of Wuhan,Nanjing and Nanning cable TV net.
