Research And Implementation Of Electronic Program Guide System Based On Dynamic Strategy Of Database

Digital television has brought an unprecedented experience for people,which can not only provide high-quality audio and video programs,but also bring a variety of value-added services.Electronic Program Guide(EPG)is one of the most important digital television applications.EPG can provide the navigation information for all programs,so that users can know the program information they need among a large number of programs.EPG is also the entrance of many other applications,such as Personal Video Recorder(PVR),Near Video on Demand(NVOD),etc.Thus,the performance of EPG system would affect the stability of the whole digital TV applications.First,we introduce the standards and technologies related to the development of EPG systems,such as the composition of the digital television transmission network,the hardware and software structure of the Digital Set-Top Box(STB),Moving Picture Experts Group(MPEG),Program Specific Information(PSI),and Service Information(SI)standards.Then,we discuss the implementation way and the partition of modules in the EPG system,and the scheduling management and the principle of On Screen Display(OSD)in the STB system according to the structure of the digital TV transmission stream and the software and hardware architecture.Finally,we give the detailed description of each module of the EPG system,especially the dynamic strategy of database which can be considered to be the most important module of the whole EPG system.The integration of EPG system in this thesis is based on the Montage M88CC6000-M hardware platform.This thesis is to design a new management policy of database in the EPG system,which is helpful for the EPG system to provide good performance even under insufficient memory.In addition,we optimize the structure of data to reduce the data coupling by separating the active data and inactive data,which would help to manage the database more effectively.The EPG system has passed all the tests both in laboratory and the real environment,and is verified to be much better than the previous one which was integrated on the same platform.
