Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a new plug-and-play hardware interface. It is becoming a chief interface of external peripherals and PCs for its convenient and expansible. As a result, USB is widely applied to the development of peripherals'interface.Microwave radiometer imaging is one of major methods by which the domestic and international military sections reconnoiter objectives and catch informations. Author designs a new usb communication interface on the base of 3mm microwave radiometer imaging system developed by HuaZhong University of Science and technology Microwave Laboratory. In this paper, author mainly analyzes USB specification and introduces software and hardware design process of the USB interface of microwave radiometer imaging system. Especially, the paper gives a specific programming scheme of device driver on the PC because it is the most important and difficult in this project.This paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter introduces reaserch developments of the domestic and international microwave radiometer imaging system. after comparing the existing serial interfaces, author makes a demand to adopt USB technique and finally clarifies the objective and mission of the project.The second chapter explains the theory of microwave radiation measure and brief introduces the microwave radiation characteristic to surface feature goal. then The third chapter analyzes Universal Serial Bus specification (version 2.0). The fourth chapter particular introduces the hardware design of USB interface of microwave radiometer imaging system, and explains the course from selection of chip to every module's design. The fifth chapter shows the writing process of system software, which includes program of microcontroller,design of drivers and application. Especially, illustrates the idiographic design scheme of drivers of Virtual Com Port.At last the author summerizes the work that has been done in this project and brings some advices about forward research of USB interface of microwave radiometer imaging system.
