Development of a new product often requires to collaborative design and group decision of across enterprise, space and subject with growing of global market and internet technique.Visual platform of collaborative design is a basic tool of processing long-distance collaborative work. Simulating the nature attributes of collaborative work for the expert groups in network environment can shorten development periods, lessen misconstrue in the design process and improve productive efficiency. This thesis focused on visual platform in collaborative environment and its some key technologies.Firstly, some system structures of collaborative design are analyzed. Based on mixed structure, according to the demand of the system, the framework of visual platform is built and some key technologies are introduced.Then 3D model display technology based on HOOPS is researched. HOOPS's subassemblies and run mechanism are introduced. 3D model display and interaction are implemented though HOOPS's scene graph structure. The server of system is implemented though the HOOPS/Net, and message transmission is achieved.After researching on some technologies including XML, LOD and SAX, 3D streaming transmission and progressive viewing are implemented. So the 3D model could view in the web browser more rapidly. These technologies are all applied in the visual platform.ACIS geometric engine is analyzed in depth, including its systematic structure, data structures of model, and the interfaces between application and ACIS. Based on these contents above, the bridge between ACIS and HOOPS is implemented and the 3D modeling function is tried in the system.CollabVue, the prototype system based on research is under development. The function structure and working flow are designed. Then some examples are given to illustrate some functions of the system.Finally a conclusion is drawn and further research is pointed out.
