In the 21st century, the advanced mode of production is concurrent engineering, agile manufacturing and lean production. If manufacturing industry wants to further reduce the product development cycle, improves product quality, wins market and wins the competition. However, the traditional ways of working which are thought custom, movement pattern and control policy can not be achieved. CSCD is attached seriously and expanded rapidly under the background, domestic and foreign scholars have carried on deeply research and have obtained many great achievements. Majority researches focus on computer supported collaborative work to be achieved technically, the transmission and apply sharing of complex 3D data model on the network have been not resolved under the existing network bandwidth's limit. XVL which has a compression ratio, data distortion, format compatibility, and good characteristics is a new technology, what offer an effective approach for a 3D model of the network transmission.This paper introduces research situation and existing problems of the collaborative design, 3D model of network transmission and application sharing, which study key technologies for collaborative design system. On the basis of analyzing technical characteristics of XVL which is data structure and data conversion technology, 3D data streaming for network transmission and application in the collaborative design based on XVL are proposed to solver the difficulties the network transmission and achieve the browsing and operations of 3D data model. analyzing the function and system architecture of NetMeeting, realizing the real-time exchange functions, whiteboard, shared programs, transfer files of text, graphics, audio and video and so on, NetMeeting's hybrid application sharing can be achieved by combining with application sharing concurrency control mechanism.Finally, the prototype system of collaborative design management based on XVL is developed, which introduces the operating environment configuration of the system in order to realize the system function of each module that toy car as a model by SolidWorks.
