This paper firstly review a most importain field of the computer vision , image-based modeling, and then presents an interactive progressive modeling approach and system based on single or multiple photo images of unknown camera parameters. The distinct feature of this approach is to reconstruct the 3D model of target from images progressively in accordance with the general modeling conventions. Namely, user firstly determines the rough model and puts projection and spatial constraints on it as well as topological operations step by step to let the system recover the camera parameters and refine the model. By this means, user can recover the model with arbitrary geometry and topology. During the interaction, the reconstructed results can be computed and displayed instantly because we use an optimization-tree based symbolic and numeric hybrid optimization-solving approach.
