In China, the majority of the audiences take CCTV as the first channel to obtain the information of football matches while CCTV develops with its broadcasting of FIFA World Cup matches. Though football in China develops much behind the international level, the numerous football TV audiences is not influenced by it. Moreover, CCTV always makes much effort to the broadcasting of football matches. The highest level in the form of football is the FIFA World Cup. CCTV has broadcasted 8 FIFA World Cup matches since it developed from Beijing TV in 1958. CCTV develops into a big, strong and independent TV station from a small, weak and dependent one. Especially, CCTV's broadcasting of 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany reached a certain high level. Meanwhile, CCTV got great success and experience not only in broadcasting but in marketing and planning in the process of2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany which was the most important sports event before2007 FIFA Women's World Cup and Beijing 2008 Olympics.This thesis is made up of 5 parts. Chapter 1 analyzed and explained the features, points of view, status and value of this research, and introduced the research bounds and methodology. Chapter 2 illustrated and analyzed the relationship between TV and football matches as the research objective. Chapter 3 presented the development of CCTV's broadcasting of football matches including FIFA World Cup as the further illustration of the research objective. Chapter 4 analyzed CCTV's broadcasting and marketing of 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany in details. Finally, Chapter 5 summarized this research in general.
