FIFA World Cup, is one of the most important sport events in the world, which gives a good opportunity to inspect the integrated style and characteristics of media worldwide. This thesis targets the reporting on 2006 FIFA World Cup from Mainland China and Hong Kong Newspapers, and uses quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis to analyze the reporting and behaviors of the six newspapers from Mainland China and Hong Kong during the World Cup. By comparison, the thesis is trying to discover the difference between newspapers from the two regions, with the purpose that it will enlighten other researchers or journalists.This research discovers that newspapers from both regions pay great attention to the World Cup, but Hong Kong newspapers'visual field is broader, its reportage is richer, and gives more highlight to continuousness and foresightedness, besides, Hong Kong Newspapers stresses the elements of localization, detail and entertainment; while the mainland newspaper is more rigorous and serious on reporting and writing, it highlights overall, straightforward expression, and the guiding of public opinion. Speaking of layout style, Hong Kong newspapers in general are more"colorful and flaring"than mainland newspapers. Totally speaking, two trapezium characteristics can be sorted in the otherness between Mainland Newspaper and Hong Kong Newspaper. The first one is called Zone Trapezia Characteristics; the difference is becoming smaller as it goes to the south, and bigger as it goes to the north. The second one is Newspaper Types Trapezia Characteristics; Market Newspaper is more similar to Hong Kong Newspaper, but Party Newspaper is more different from Hong Kong Newspaper. But the gab is narrowing as time passes by.The author believed that, no mass media can be independent from economic and cultural system, which results in the difference of the newspapers of the two regions on reporting the World Cup. There are some universal principles on journalism theory and operation, more communication should be done between the two regions, and both sides must realize the strength and weakness of each other, try to understand and learn from each other seems to be the best way.Simultaneously, both sides must respect local situations and take operations basing on reality.
