JEPG2000 is a new still image compression standard which the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Union of Electronic Technology (IEC) jointly launched in 2000,it combined the outstanding achievements of Digital Signal Processing in nearly a dozen years -the theory of wavelet analysis and highly efficient and flexible data organizing mode(EBCOT) organicly, and formed a complete set of image compression standard. JEPG2000 not only greatly enhanced the image compression rate, efficiency of compression encoding/decoding implementation, but more importantly through the provision of several special functions, highly optimized the management and organization of image data, coupled with the openness of the standards, in the foreseeable future, JPEG2000 will completely replace the existing image compression technology.This topic comes from a national projects. In the article, Study the JPEG2000 still image compression technology, and elaborated on the realizing process of DSP-based JPEG2000 compression module of the system.Papers initially researched on the basic contents of JPEG2000 still image compression standard, analyzed the algorithm which is included in main modules such as component transforms,wavelet transforms, quantization, quantization , arithmetic coding an so on, And based on this, proposed a hardware structure of a prototype about image compression principle and based on parallel processing of multi-DSPS,and discuss on key technical problems in hardware design. Finally raised a software implementation of JEPG2000 standard on DSP,and a software structure in JEPG2000 algorithm on DSP system is given in this paper, analysis implementation scheme, arithmetic flow , operation time and efficiency of core algorithm such as initialization, component transforms,wavelet transforms, Tier-1 encoding, Tier-2 encoding and so on.
