Computer aided design (CAD) that has been developed as a kind of technology by the 1960's, plays a very important role in industrial design, and has been widely used in various aspects of industrial design. Along with the development of the technology and the progress of the times, the demand of people to the appearance of the products has been steadily improving. As an important component of the outward appearance of a product, the color design is also getting more and more important in the product design. By the Computer-aided Color Harmony Design, people can fast, accurate, highly effective carry on the optimization to the color plan. According this method can make the color design more available and innovative, and improve the efficiency and the competitive power of the product.Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is an optimization algorithm based on iteration, which was proposed by Kennedy and Eberhart in 1995. The system is initialized with a set of random solutions, and the best solution is to be found through a way of iteration. It has been widely concerned by people because of its feasibility and effectiveness. It has been proven to be a powerful competitor to other heuristic algorithms, such as genetic algorithm,tabu search and simulated annealing algorithm for global optimization problems. Now it has been applied to many fields of function optimization and engineering technology successfully.Cluster analysis is a kind of algorithm, which can divide the data into different groups, and there are obvious distinctions among groups. As a key method of data mining, cluster analysis has long been studied and used in a wide variety of fields such as biology, statistics, pattern-recognition, information retrieval, machine learning, and image processing, etc.Much attention has been paid to the computer aided color harmony design methods in this paper. According to the study of the PSO, cluster analysis and the theory of color design, an example-based color design method and a method based on intelligent optimization algorithms are researched. The main functions of these methods of the color design for the product are realized. The main work is as follows:1. Bring PSO to the process of the product component layout design. Based on the research of the PSO which is a simple and efficient algorithm, this paper applies the PSO to the product component layout design and realizes the intelligent assembling of the components. This method may improve the Effectiveness and innovation of the product design. This paper proposes a self-adapting algorithm using Particle Swarm Optimization to deal with the constrained layout optimization problems. This algorithm based on component feature model, integrating human-computer interactive technique into Particle Swarm Optimization, can solve the problem more efficiently to satisfy the constraint. And the effectiveness of this method is verified in the layout problem of cell-phone components. Theoretical and case analysis show that this improved algorithm can create multiple layout schemes of cell-phone components quickly and efficiently.2. According to the study of the PSO and the theory of color design, a method of computer-aided color harmony design based on PSO is proposed in this paper. Through the study of the theory about color design, obtaining many principles and methods of the color design, an intelligent optimization method with PSO used for color scheme is proposed. This method could provide the computer-aided color design with color theory knowledge auxiliary that is helpful to improve the efficiency of the color designs and provide a color designing an innovative idea. In the color harmony design system, basing on the RGB space and Munsell space, using PSO to optimize the predetermined color design, determining the fitness function based on the theory of color harmony, this method can give the optimized color design proposal. By performing the function of optimizing the color design proposal of the production in the computer-aided design system, this method is proved to be effectively to produce advisable and novel color design scheme.3. Compound the Cluster analysis and PSO, an example-based color design method is proposed in this paper.Color design of successful examples usually stands for a type of style, convention or trend, which has important conference value to new designs. With the cluster analysis and PSO applying to the computer-aid color design, a subtraction and reuse method of color design from examples is studied in this paper. This method realizes the extraction and reuse of the excellent color design schemes and is beneficial to strengthen the function of the computer-aid color design and improve the design efficiency.These methods have been tested in the color design software for the product color design. The testing result of this system showed that the method of system building is feasible, and can assist designer in product color design effectively.
