The world is changed greatly by the fast development of the computer technology. The emergence of the 3D and virtual reality technique brings us a new method for the protection of the culture inheritance, and promotes the development of the digital culture inheritance together with other relative techniques. There are many valuable culture inheritances in our country, which are not only the Chinese traditional cultures, but also the valuable fortune for the whole world. The Summer Palace as one of the first group of the most protected units in our country was authorized as the World Culture Inheritance by UNESCO in 1998, and it also notarized as the outstanding representation of the Chinese royal gardens. So the study on the digital summer palace has very important realistic meaning.Based on the analysis of the developments of the digital culture inheritance in the world, the structure of Chinese traditional architecture and the gardening art of the Summer Palace, the thesis establishes man-machine interface for the digital Summer Palace. It researches the three dimensional models of the terrain, architectures and plants. From the point of visual effects, the series of modeling methods fit to well to different Chinese traditional architectures. A series of man-machine interactive functions such as walking-through and trigging are also well implemented by loading the scenario models of Summer Palace with proper settings and the script languages programming in the virtual reality platform.
