Accompanied by the commercial waves of the globalization and integration of the economy, tremendous industry revolution has taken place over the world. How to develop the animation industry with Chinese characteristics in this new intellectual economical wave has been resulted in extended discussions.This article mainly purposes to create a short 3D animation with the help of Maya and Mental Ray, both of which are global leading 3D animation software. Experimentally, this article will also introduce the technology of geometry replacement. By penetratingly analyzing the process of the production of the 3D animation, this article analyzes and rethinks the Chinese animation industry in order to establish the contact between theory and practice, traditional methods and innovations, personal production and national industry.Therefore, the content of this article concentrates on the production of this 3D project. Supported by 3D animation Flower, this article emphasizes on the difficulties engaged in this project, especially those problems which are seldom encountered in other projects, introduces how these problems are settled during the productive practice thereby. Finally, as an innovative test, this article gives some information about geometry replacement with the aim to resolve the problem of how to raise the productivity during lighting and rendering procedures with the current hardware condition.Structurally, this article illustrates the process of the production of 3D animation project by analyzing animation industry, introduces the geometry replacement during the procedure of project production, and finally makes conclusion of the project.This article mainly includes following contents:First chapter as the introduction gives the information of the background of the project. The next chapter comparatively analyzes the industry of the animation, especially the 3D animation between domestic and overseas market. Besides, by analyzing the technological process of the animation industry, introduces the practical significance of the project. The third chapter introduces the some software and tools, which was related to the project. The fourth chapter witnesses the full producing procedure of the project. The fifth chapter promotes the test technology: geometry replacement. And the sixth chapter analyzes the shortcomings and prospects of the project by the retrospection. The final chapter is the conclusion.
